Apple TV Plus takes to the skies

Apple signs deal with American Airlines to make its TV content available on board flights

As it seeks to find a bigger share of the SVoD audience, Apple TV Plus has struck a deal with American Airlines to include its content in the airline’s on-board entertainment.

The deal will see 11 Apple TV Plus originals included on American Airlines’ streaming-entertainment menu, which allows travellers to stream content on their own device whilst on-board. Viewers don’t need to pay for WiFi during their flight if they have the app installed on their device.

Content will also be available on some seat-back screens as well, however so far only the first couple of episodes of each season are available.

Apple previously partnered with American Airlines to offer free streaming of Apple Music on domestic US flights.

It’s thought Apple is hoping the deal will help get passengers hooked on its content and encourage them to subscribe to Apple TV Plus.
