Apple makes history at the Academy Awards

Dune was the night's big winner picking six awards in total, including Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects

Apple has become the first streaming service to win the Best Picture award at the Oscars.

Coda, a film about a young girl who is the child of deaf adults, picked up the night’s biggest prize.

During their acceptance speech, the film’s producers paid tribute to Apple, telling the audience the team at Apple TV Plus had been “absolutely amazing from day one and really were able to physically put this movie everywhere in the world.”

Overall, the streaming services’ Oscar tally was lower than last year with Coda also picking up Best Supporting Actor for Troy Kotsur, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Despite having the most nominations going into the ceremony, Netflix’s The Power of the Dog picked up just one award for director Jane Campion.

In the craft awards, Dune was the big winner, collecting six awards in total including Best Cinematography for Greig Fraser, and Visual Effects.
