Viaplay selects 3Ready Platform to enhance Allente’s customer UX

The deployment aims to enhance discoverability and user experience for viewers across the Nordic regions

Viaplay Group has selected 3 Screen Solutions’ (3SS) 3Ready Platform set-top boxes (STBs) for its Allente entertainment service, aiming to enhance UX and discovery services for users.

Serving customers across the Nordic region, Allente is offering subscribers a new 4 TOPS NPU AI set-top box from SDMC and customisable remote control from t4h (Tech4home), integrated with the 3Ready Framework and Control Center.

Commenting, Philip Wågnert. EVP chief technology and product officer at Viaplay Group, said, “Through our close collaboration with 3SS, and the capabilities of the 3Ready platform, alongside state-of-the-art technology from SDMC and t4h, we’re delivering true hardware and user experience innovation, and Allente customers can benefit from a modern service that’s fast, stable and user-friendly.”

Aiming to meet the needs of distinct audience groups, 3SS has launched 3Ready Experience Modes: Live TV mode opens on the last watched channel to preserve a familiar live TV experience, On Demand Mode enables immediate access to recently used streaming services, allowing viewers to continue where they left off, and Kids Mode provides a safe experience for younger viewers, filtering out unsuitable content.

“When designing a TV product, there’s always the dilemma of trying to determine for which main audience you’re really optimising the menu structure, content and discovery,” said Pierre Donath, chief product and marketing officer at 3SS.

Third-party services are integrated, allowing access to a range of channels and streaming services such as Viaplay, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max and SkyShowtime.

A range of UX innovations aims to simplify navigation, including a facility to allow live TV to be browsed without interrupting what is being watched. Home screen picture-in-picture ensures live TV and VoD can be viewed while exploring new content.

Running on Android TV Operator Tier OS, the SDMC DV9865 AI box features an Amlogic S905X5-J SoC and ARM Quad 64-bit CPU. Additionally, it includes a Neural Processing Unit (NPU), a specialised hardware accelerator designed to run artificial intelligence and machine learning tasks on the device itself. Viaplay has selected the t4h Notus L12 programmable smart remote control unit, integrated with the 3Ready Control Center.
