UHD Spain carries out UHD HDR/SDR simulcast

Organisation aims to demonstrate standard's potential both to the industry and viewing public

The non-profit association UHD Spain has carried out its first UHD HDR/SDR simulcast across satellite, internet and DTT.

The organisation, made up of 30 top-level partners, said the demonstration consolidates its commitment to developing a collaborative framework around new audiovisual technologies, especially UHD, in order to demonstrate the standard’s potential both to the industry and public.

The UHD HDR and SDR signals were distributed by Overon, with Hispasat in charge of satellite, Cellnex, Axion, and Telecom CLM delivering the DTT signal via more than 45 broadcasting centres throughout Spain. UHD SPAIN’s own official website dealt with the streaming feed, using encoders from Ateme and Dolby.

It involved over nine hours of content, including pictures from LaLiga and documentaries on Carnival of Cádiz and Holy Week in Seville.

UHD Spain said it intends to carry out further tests in HDR, Wide Colour Gamut and the necessary transmission parameters across its different working groups (capture, post production, encoding, broadcasting and reception), with a white paper scheduled for publication in November.
