The International Paralympics Committee (IPC) has stated it expects the cumulative audience figures for Paris 2024 to surpass that of both the Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
Paris 2024 marks the first time when coverage of all 22 sports in the competition will be available. More than 225 rights holder broadcasters, web streamers, digital, social and audio platforms are covering the event, many taking advantage of the 1,450 hours of live content produced by Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS).
John Lisko, IPC Global Media Rights MD, said: “We fully expect Paris 2024 will shatter every Paralympic Games broadcasting record there is – record number of rights holders, more hours of live coverage than ever before, and all 22 sports live for the first time in history.”
France Télévisions is providing 24-hour-a-day coverage of the Games, with 300 hours of live and on-demand coverage. UK broadcaster Channel 4 is airing more than 1,300 hours of live sport across a number of platforms in what is planned to be its biggest-ever broadcast. All of its content has subtitles and live peak time events offer viewers closed audio description. Live sport on More 4 and Channel 4 Streaming includes BSL live signing.
Channel 4 said 7.2 million people watched its first day coverage, with a peak of 1.6 million tuning in to watch Tulley Kearney’s gold-winning performance in the women’s 200m S5 final.
