England’s victory in the Women’s Euro 2022 has broken TV viewing records in the UK.
The final drew an average of 11 million viewers and a 66 per cent audience share, peaking at 17.6 million, according to overnights.tv.
The match is the most-watched women’s football game on UK television of all-time and the most-watched programme of 2022 so far.
The match, which saw the Lionesses beat Germany 2-1, attracted a bigger audience than the team’s semi-final win against Sweden, which had a peak of 9.3 million viewers.
The BBC said across iPlayer and BBC Sport website and app there were 5.9 million streams of the final.
In Germany, the match attracted an average of 17.9 viewers, or 64.8 per cent of the viewing audience.
