Germany’s ProSieben announces new linear channel for over 50s

Sat.2 will have a female-oriented focus and be available on linear TV, Joyn, and third-party platforms

German media company ProSiebenSat.1 will launch a new linear TV channel aimed at over 50s later this year.

Sat.2 will have a female-oriented focus and be available on linear TV, Joyn, and third-party platforms.

“Our very clearly positioned target group channels have grown strongly in recent years,” said Henrik Pabst, chief content officer of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group. “With Sat.2, we want to strategically expand our portfolio and, in particular, offer viewers aged 50 and over a new and additional alternative for their entertainment needs.”

Ellen Koch, head of channels, added: Our target audience feels ten years younger and fitter today than before and uses media extremely flexibly—whether linear, via streaming, or free on third-party platforms like YouTube. Under the Sat.2 brand, we curate the content across all channels so that our audience spends more time watching and less time searching.”

ProSiebenSat.1 will now offer what it calls “7+1 linear channels,” including Sat.1, Sat.2, Sat.1 Gold, ProSieben, ProSieben Maxx, Kabel Eins, Kabel Eins Doku, and Sixx.

The new channel is expected to launch “this winter,” said the company.
