The BBC’s coverage of Wimbledon will include new interactive elements, created by the broadcaster’s research and development team.
SIGNALS runs as an internet‑delivered layer alongside broadcast TV.
In a blog post, the BBC R&D FWD team said SIGNALS will use ball-tracking data from the All England Club to deliver real-time insights via on-screen overlays, including a dominance graph which will update to show which player is dominating in a match.
The graph will also include interactive key moments that emphasise turning points. Audiences can explore them to see what drove the change, including winners, unforced errors, and the details behind the shots.
A dedicated winners’ view will reveal which shots are working for each player, and serve performance cards will detail key aspects of the players’ serve. Fans will also see an animated serve speed overlay.
“For audiences, this means a clearer understanding of momentum and performance, more confidence in what they’re seeing, and a more engaging, rewarding experience,” said the post. “For broadcasters, it creates something equally valuable. By combining interaction with live insight, SIGNALS builds a real-time feedback loop, showing how audiences are responding, what they’re engaging with, and how their understanding grows.”
