T-Mobile’s 5G network helps power Ryder Cup coverage

As the Ryder Cup tees off at Bethpage Black in New York, this year’s TV broadcast will use wireless cameras on a high-speed, low-latency 5G private network to capture key moments.

As the official Ryder Cup broadcaster, NBC Sports will employ a dedicated 5G private network from T-Mobile to connect untethered 5G cameras capturing full HDR footage.

A 5G-connected drone will capture views above the course, with wireless wearable cams showcasing unique PoVs and capturing interviews from the first tee. Plus, robotic cameras will bring fans up close to all the action.

T-Mobile Breakfast at Bethpage, which will be broadcast each morning from the first tee, will also make use of the telco’s 5G network. It will mark production company Omaha Production’s first-ever 5G-enabled project powered by a 5G private network from T-Mobile for Business’ Advanced Network Solutions.

“There’s nothing like the first tee at a Ryder Cup,” said Alex Tyner, head of innovation and technology, Omaha Productions. “And thanks to our ability to use 5G-connected cameras and remote production technology, T-Mobile Breakfast at Bethpage will put fans right in the heart of that excitement like never before.”

T-Mobile Breakfast at Bethpage will air live from the Ryder Cup’s first tee Friday and Saturday from 6am to 8am ET and Sunday from 10sm to noon ET via RyderCup.com, the Ryder Cup Mobile App, and YouTube.
