Sportway Media Group and Broadcast Solutions have jointly announced the acquisition of AI technology provider Studio Automated. The deal aims to create an integrated, glass-to-glass ecosystem, combining AI-driven production, camera systems, software control layers and content distribution to cover the entire live sports production spectrum.
Through its large-scale operations, Sportway delivers hundreds of thousands of matches each year across multiple sports, leagues and markets, providing real-world production environments which enable a continuous process of training and refinement for AI-based workflows.
Systems integrator and technology provider Broadcast Solutions delivers OB vans, remote production infrastructures, VAR solutions, and premium broadcast workflows for major international events. Following its acquisition of Egripment BV last year, the company enables access to premium camera systems and engineering expertise.
With its AI software already driving cameras across European venues, Studio Automated provides technology enabling automation in multicamera live production and remote workflows, supporting sports including football, ice hockey, basketball, and handball.
All parties have collaborated for several years with DMC Production in live sports environments, contributing to the refinement of Studio Automated’s AI-based multicamera production software.
The acquisition marks a significant step in the creation of “one of the world’s most advanced and scalable platforms for live sports production,” said the companies. Expanding the platform’s capabilities, the integration enables real-time event detection directly from live video feeds allowing the creation of instant highlights, clips, and replays during live matches. Unlocking new content formats and enhancing fan engagement, the move aims to unlock monetisation opportunities for broadcasters, leagues, and rights holders.
The joint platform combines:
- AI production continuously trained on real, large-scale live data
- Tight integration of software, hardware, and production workflows
- A unified ecosystem where premium broadcast productions and automated workflows coexist
- Real-time event detection powering instant highlights and replay experiences
- A single partner for rights holders — from grassroots level to top-tier productions
Commeting, Daniel Franck, Sportway’s CEO, said, “It is a major step in the evolution of Sportway Media Group to bring core software capabilities fully in-house across the production value chain. We have worked closely with Studio Automated for more than seven years. A shared technology roadmap allows us to further strengthen our offering and deliver even more scalable and reliable live productions to our clients.”
“Live production is in our DNA,” added Rainer Kampe, CTO of Broadcast Solutions. “We have been actively looking to embrace software-defined and AI-based production tools for multi-tier and high-volume live sports environments. Combining Studio Automated’s world-class AI algorithms with our specialist camera technology and premium broadcast workflows creates strong and tangible synergies.”
“We are very proud of what we’ve built over the past six years and fully support the vision of Sportway Media Group and Broadcast Solutions to take Studio Automated to the next level,” said Paul Valk, co-founder at Studio Automated.
