Spanish media company Mediapro is using AI technology from IBM to create personalised highlights from LaLiga matches.
The AIProclips platform allows users to create custom highlights in near real-time. The user can select what aspects for the match they want to highlight (best chances, a certain player’s performance etc) and the platform will automatically generate the required clip.
The platform uses a combination of three algorithms. The first focuses on the analysis of the a move by a team and how that ends, deciding when the move begins and when it ends. To accomplish this, the platform uses a collaboration of algorithms created by Thuzz, a North American company with extensive experience in image processing in the sports field.
The second algorithmic layer, created with IBM Watson technology, analyses the gestures of the players, the voice of the commentator and the ambient sound at the ground.
The third has been designed and developed by IBM with machine learning and is able to identify that a goal in the 89th minute of the match is more relevant than in the first half. This aspect of the ML has been trained and adapted by the Mediapro audiovisual services team and IBM experts for exclusive use in AIProclips.
“Artificial intelligence provides us with great opportunities to optimise production processes, but it also opens the door for the development of a large number of new products aimed at responding to the needs of hypersegmentation of audiences and the design of personalised solutions for them, such as AIProclips,” said Maria Carmen Fernández, director of Innovation and New Business at Mediapro.
