LiveU has announced ITV News has expanded its deployment of the company’s solutions.
Aiming to drive more sustainable workflows, the broadcaster has extended its deployment of LiveU’s IP-Video EcoSystem across its national and regional newsgathering operations.
Spanning the full video production environment from contribution and production to distribution, ITV News has deployed multiple LiveU LU800 and LU300 portable mobile encoders for daily newsgathering across the UK.
Easily detachable for autonomous use, multi-cam LU800s are used both inside and outside ITV’s plug-in hybrid news production vehicles (NPV). Complemented by the LU-Smart mobile app, LU300s provide the broadcaster with a smaller solution for its camera operators, increasing newsgathering potential, said LiveU.
ITV also utilises LiveU’s Video Return capabilities and Audio Connect, enabling communications between the studio and teams operating in the field. The LiveU Matrix cloud-native IP video distribution platform facilitates low-latency live feeds both across the ITV network and outside the organisation.
Steve Teague, head of technical services for ITV News, said, “LiveU as a platform for this was attractive because it’s fundamentally IP, and all the advantages that brings, rather than DVB-style baseband transmission. It also gave us the opportunity to reframe our relationship with LiveU, moving closer to a service provider model. We wanted a relationship where we could evolve together. This has been fundamental to the success of this project.”
