Solutions provided by TVU Networks will support a special live broadcast from an Iberia aircraft during the solar eclipse taking place on August 12th.
The Spanish airline will broadcast directly from a specially equipped Airbus A321XLR which will remain aloft during the event, aiming to capture the effects of the total eclipse from an altitude of more than 10,000 metres (approx 32,800ft) as the skies briefly darken.
Footage captured by four cameras in the air will be transmitted by the TVU One via Starlink—which is currently being rolled out across the Iberia fleet—to the TVU MediaHub for simultaneous onward distribution to more than 100 receivers around the world, with each able to choose its preferred reception format, SRT or TVU Grid (ISSP).
Commenting, Rafael Castillo, VP/GM EMEA and LATAM at TVU Networks, said, “This project shows how our IP distribution model lets us deliver a single live signal to different formats and destinations, as easily as a conventional TVU signal is received today.”
The total solar eclipse will be the first to be visible from the Iberian Peninsula since 1912. Creative direction and technical production will be handled by El Sótano Doc, with Golden News Media collaborating on connectivity and signal distribution.
