How cloud, smartphones and AI helped capture the world’s largest running event

As well as TVU Network's remote production capabilities, Red Bull Media House used AI for facial recognition, starting number detection and logo identification of the 310,719 runners

The 2025 Wings for Life World Run spanned 170 countries with 310,719 runners. To produce TV coverage of the event, Red Bull Media House partnered with TVU Networks to employ the cloud, smartphones and artificial intelligence.

Seven of the event’s Flagship Runs transmitted their programme and selected ISO feeds via TVU RPS One, a further 23 App Run Events were equipped with cameras and TVU RPS One units featuring 6 built-in 5G modems, and 30 App Run Events used the TVU Anywhere app on smartphones, enabling real-time production and recording workflows.

All video feeds were sent to a central control room in Munich, where editors and journalists used TVU Partyline’s cloud multiviewer to follow the action in real time, enabling them to monitor all incoming live feeds.

The production workflow also successfully captured the 2025 winner using a smartphone running the TVU Anywhere app—fully remote-controlled via TVU Partyline.

For the first time, the Red Bull Media House team used TVU Search to combine facial, starting number, and logo recognition into a single interface, which meant that producers could instantly find specific athletes, public figures, or branded moments across all of the event’s live content.

“With the new Appearance Board in TVU Search, Red Bull Media House can track the presence of their key athletes and partners across all feeds with just a click,” said Johannes Heckmann, Solutions Architect at TVU Networks. “It’s a huge time-saver and gives them real control over how stories are told.”
