Grup Mediapro has formally withdrawn its statement reacting to the Spanish football league contract award.
In a further statement released today, the company acknowledged its earlier communication “stemmed from a premature assessment of the tender process and included claims that were not substantiated.”
Mediapro added the previous statement was, in retrospect, “neither appropriate nor accurate” and that the company regrets its tone and content.
Grup Mediapro clarified that it had “no grounds to assert that LALIGA’s decision was arbitrary, lacked objectivity, or was made to benefit other participants [at its expense].” and that the assertions should be disregarded.
The company also said it wished to retract any suggestion that the tender process lacked transparency or was marked by secrecy, or that it could be detrimental to clubs, the competition or broadcast quality.
Grup Mediapro reiterated its recognition of LaLiga’s collaborative role in establishing “one of the most innovative and technologically advanced football competitions worldwide,” and praised the league’s efforts to combat piracy and champion innovation in broadcasting, adding that it “regrets the earlier statement and reaffirms its respect for the integrity of the tender process and all parties involved.”
