Grass Valley debuts NAS solution aimed at remote productions, outside broadcasts

AMS Express works with Grass Valley's existing editing and playout solutions

Grass Valley has announced its latest product AMS Express, which is aimed at small to medium-size media operations working on remote production and outside broadcast (OB) deployments.

AMS Express (or Advanced Media Storage) is a scalable Network Attached Storage (NAS) solution that allows content producers to more easily expand storage capacity.

It works with Grass Valley’s existing editing and playout solutions, allowing customers to expand capacity without incurring system downtime. The system combines compute, network and secure storage capability in a compact 2RU footprint.

According to the company, AMS Express requires fewer boxes and cables than other products in its class, and offers up to 384 TB of raw capacity (256TB usable). It is built on top of the StorNext operating system and comes pre-installed with Grass Valley’s software for tracking media assets.

“Flexibility and future-readiness are very much front of mind for our customers, and the global pandemic has only served to highlight this need further,” commented Marco Lopez, Grass Valley’s general manager for live production. “In today’s environment, broadcasters and content producers need solutions that help them to adapt quickly without interrupting the flow of content. AMS Express meets these needs, allowing customers to grow their storage capacity in step with their business and easily pivot to a remote set-up when needed.”
