Deutsche Telekom and the Deutsche Fussball-Bund (DFB) have extended their existing 5G partnership to stream over 100 amateur matches using 5G over the next two years.
As part of the deal, live sports streaming company Sporttotal will use its 5G-connected cameras to deliver coverage of the games.
The 16 cm AI-based cameras will be attached to a mast of the stadium roof or in the sports hall, capturing each game in full HD. The AI has been trained to understand what’s happening on the pitch and will direct coverage of the games.
Amateur clubs have been invited to apply for the Sporttotal cameras, which they will be able to use for free for two years to stream both matches and training sessions live.
“We are delighted to be able to further develop our long-standing partnership with Deutsche Telekom,” said Dr Holger Blask, CEO of DFB.
“It is particularly important to Telekom and DFB that women’s football will also be part of the partnership. In addition, Telekom is supporting the digitisation of amateur football by providing a large number of automated cameras. This will also give grassroots football more visibility.”
