AJA helps RT Software cross the line with catamaran racing AR graphics provision

The company leverages AJA's Corvid 88 cards to help tell the race tale with augmented reality graphics

AJA Video Systems has announced RT Software has selected its Corvid 88 I/O solution.

RT Software enables the creation and playout of dynamic graphics solutions for live events broadcasters including Sky Sports, Sky News, TNT Sports (UK), Eurosport (France) and TRT (Turkey). Recently, the graphics technology provider has worked with a sports brand to deliver coverage of live catamaran races from locations around the world.

Helicopters are used for filming, with signals sent back to London via a high bandwidth distribution network. These are distributed into a range of PC-based graphics solutions with RT Software’s Swift Engine leveraging AJA Corvid 88 cards for video I/O and an NVIDIA GPU for processing. An internal team then adds graphics, including augmented reality (AR) overlaid onto the water to help tell the story of the race. The signal is then sent to various TV channels and online streams.

RT Software marketing manager Ian Young, said, “Our broadcast customers only get one shot to get it right, so our technology must be reliable, which is why we’ve standardised on AJA SDI I/O gear.

“It sounds simple but there’s a lot of video coming in and out simultaneously, which requires quite a bit of hardware and processing power. Once we hand off our systems to customers, we endeavour to make them self-sufficient with them, but we continue to provide any support that might be required. It’s incredible to see how they use our technology and the integrated AJA equipment in live productions.”
