Appear takes its X Platform to the edge

Appear said it is expanding the X Platform to meet the realities of modern broadcast networks, without compromising performance, resilience, or flexibility

Appear has announced the launch of Appear XM, a self-hosted management tool designed to simplify operations across large-scale deployments, providing a secure, centralised interface for managing X Platform estates.

As broadcasters scale workflows across more sites and IP infrastructure, the platform helps reduce complexity, improve visibility and streamline troubleshooting, said the company.

“Our customers are scaling live production and contribution workflows across more sites, more formats and more IP infrastructure, but they cannot afford any additional operational complexity,” said Stephan Würmlin Stadler, chief product officer, Appear.

“With X5 extending X Platform to compact edge deployments and Appear XM simplifying estate operations at scale, we’re expanding X Platform to meet the realities of modern broadcast networks, without compromising performance, resilience, or flexibility.”

Appear is also making its X5 platform generally available, extending broadcast-grade contribution to deployments such as venues, flypacks, OB trucks, regional sites and pop-up studios.

X5 includes AVC & HEVC encoding and decoding, enabling edge contribution and local monitoring workflows, and TS and SRT I/O, with support for TSoIP, ST 2022-7 protection, and ST 2022-1 FEC for reliable transport. Advanced audio processing options include Dolby D/D+ encode/decode, Dolby E decode, and a TCP API for SCTE-104 insertion.
