UHD launches across the world

IBC conference delegates with an interest in Ultra HD had better not miss Stephan Heimbecher’s opening day all-encompassing ‘UHDTV Launches Across the World’ session (8 September, Emerald Room, 10:45).

Heimbecher is director/innovations & standards at Sky Deutschland and represents Sky on national and international committees including technical work with Hollywood. He is co-chair of the FAME (Forum for Advanced Media in Europe) working group, and is on the DVB’s steering board.

He has been instrumental in carrying out increasingly demanding UHD tests, more recently for High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology. This summer he will be leading the team trialling a beach volleyball tournament in HDR, followed by the German Supercup in August which it is planned to broadcast live, and with HDR.

He will be able to report to IBC delegates on these tests, and with his panellists bring attendees up-to-date on some major UHD launch activity around the world. Presentations are expected form BT Sport, Vatican City TV on the first worldwide live 4K pictures with HDR (and hybrid log gamma), Sony will report on ‘Real-world Live 4K UHD Broadcasting with HDR’, while Japan’s NHK will update delegates on their 8K/4K transmissions due on 1 August.
