Pushing the boundaries of live production innovation with LLMs

Dan Fenton, media management adviser at Moments Lab, details the IBC Accelerator Project, AI Agent Assistants for Live Production, which aims to set new standards for AI-driven live production

Please explain what your Accelerator project is in as much detail as possible.

The AI Assistance Agents in Live Production Accelerator project aims to develop a detailed framework for integrating LLMs in live content creation, with the potential to reshape control room workflows. AI agents can navigate run orders, detect errors, preempt potential issues, and even control production systems through natural language commands.

The project sees Moments Lab’s forthcoming Video Discovery Agent deployed in a live news production proof of concept, with the strategic aim of integrating it with other production tools via A2A connections through an orchestration layer.

Who is involved in the project?

We’re working on this project alongside CUEZ, Amira Labs, Highfield AI, Monks, Cuepilot, Shure, EVS, and Google.

Why do you believe the project is important to the media industry?

The media industry is seeking genuine AI integration rather than experimentation, and that’s exactly what this project is working to achieve. Moments Lab’s contribution helps news organisations know what’s possible, providing real life examples of how AI can be used to uncover video moments that producers never knew existed!

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as part of your project?

The biggest challenge we’ve faced in this IBC Accelerator project has been narrowing the scope. There are now so many AI use cases, so our priority was to focus on one that would provide high value and high impact

Why did you want to be part of this year’s IBC Accelerator programme?

We knew we could make a key contribution in helping to push the boundaries of innovation with LLMs for live news production. The programme also provides a great opportunity for us to foster new partnerships with fellow participants.

What can IBC Show attendees expect to see from you in Amsterdam?

Visitors to the Moments Lab stand (#7.C22) at IBC2025 will be able to demo our new Discovery Agent, an AI-powered research assistant for video production teams. It offers a natural language, chat-style experience and helps users locate precise clips, quotes, or scenes from their media library in seconds, without the need for vague keyword searches or technical know-how.

See all of this year’s projects at the Accelerator Zone in Hall 14 and watch the Final Showcase Session on Friday 12th September at 12:30pm CET on the Future Tech Stage.
