Proximus Media House CTO Larissa Görner-Meeus, explains why it’s important to carve out “strolling time” in your IBC schedule.
How long have you been going to IBC?
My first IBC was in 2007 with IRT – the Research Institute of the public German-speaking broadcasters. Since that time, I have been every year in both roles on the vendor and the customer side, which makes a total of 17 times this year – incredible.
What’s your typical IBC routine: what are you there to see/learn, who are you there to meet?
Firstly, I plan the conference sessions I want to participate in and then create my list of vendors I want to see and setup my meetings around the conference slots. I try to plan them as much in the same hall and location as possible. I remember once walking about 14 km in one day and since that try to avoid it . Secondly, I try to attend several networking opportunities during the show, as I usually find those the most valuable for learning about “the new things” and potential new smaller ventures in the industry. Lastly, I carve out at least five hours of “strolling time”, to have time to pass by the innovation zone and the partner village.
Why is IBC important to you in a professional capacity, and how does the show compare to others on the calendar?
IBC is a fixed event in the calendar, bringing the major part of the European media and broadcast family all together.

What are you most looking forward to at IBC2024?
Engaging with colleagues and companies and learning how to improve our workflows and tools. Also looking forward to connecting with the Rise community and seeing our mentees and mentors.
What’s your top tip for anyone attending IBC for the first time?
Go to the IBC website and make sure to plan per hall and not run across too much. Also have a look at the conference programme and free programme available in the different zones. Take your time to walk around the innovation area to see the IBC accelerator projects and smaller booths. For students, check out the student programme of IBC, which gives great insights. Also have a look at the Gaming and esports Showcase in Hall 8.
