Global startups and scaleups in focus at the IBC2017 Startup Forum

New for 2017, the Startup Forum will connect investors and media houses seeking high-quality, innovative solutions with the startups and scaleups who create them. Taking place on Sunday, 17 September, the Forum will feature a full day of content including keynote speakers, sponsor sessions and pitches, networking opportunities and a Deal Room for scheduled speed meetings.

Seventy-five startups from around the world will be showcased, including Promethean.tv, Filmstro, Exponenta and Choicely.

Promethean.tv’s focus is on maximising returns on video content. The company is developing a platform that enables broadcasters and brands to monetise and engage video audiences using live, contextual and clickable overlays on top of any video. According to Promethean.tv, staying abreast of technological changes is hugely important to its business strategy: “Traditional broadcast is being outpaced. There has always been a qualitative difference to the OTT experience – more content, more readily available. Now OTT is offering a deeper user experience with technologies like Promethean’s. Enhanced viewing, incorporating metadata, social feeds and augmented UX is a high growth, high value area and is going places linear TV can’t follow.”

The UK’s Filmstro is one of the only companies providing ‘adaptive’ music for filmmakers and game developers in plug-ins that work directly inside their preferred workstations. The company’s aim is “…to be the de-facto ‘adaptive’ music format for game developers and filmmakers… through partnerships with other libraries and collaboration with musicians around the world.”

Exponenta, which predicts virality for unpublished texts and provides recommendations on how to get exponential shares and audience, highlights the fact that the majority of journalists and marketers are still using gut feeling to decide which content to create, publish and promote. The company explains: “10,000 virality factors have been studied to understand better what influences the popularity of the content. With Exponenta’s patentable algorithms we leave less room for intuition.”

Choicely is a global digital engagement platform for publishers and advertisers, integrating with existing websites and native apps, offering a flexible and cost-effective solution to engage and acquire new customers. The company has clear growth plans and believes “we will unlock unlimited potential with new disruptive technologies like augmented and mixed reality by creating new ways in which people will interact with and integrate digital and physical experiences”.
