Ericsson Mediaroom selects Imagine Communications for IPTV

Imagine Communications’ SelenioNext live/multiscreen transcoder and Selenio Media Convergence Platform (MCP) Encoder have been approved for use on Ericsson Mediaroom IPTV platforms.

Mediaroom-powered TV services are offered by nearly 60 global operators in 23 countries, delivering services to nearly 13 million household subscribers with approximately 24 million set-top boxes.

Imagine Communications claimed its SelenioNext high-density adaptive bit rate (ABR) transcoding technology offers up to ten times the density and power saving than competitive solutions, replacing an entire headend of video processing in a single platform. Integrating multiple functions in a single COTS server platform, SelenioNext enables service providers to ingest precompressed services and transcode, package, encrypt and stream multiscreen, multi-device video.

A key component of Imagine Communications’ networking framework, the Selenio MCP offers a multipurpose convergence solution to efficiently manage baseband and hybrid operations, including baseband video/audio processing, compression and IP networking, in a single platform.

By providing the on-ramp and off-ramp for baseband over IP, the MCP acts as the bridge between these technologies, supporting the latest compression formats while leveraging high-quality baseband video.

“Ericsson Mediaroom is one of the largest middleware providers in the world,” said Charlie Vogt, CEO of Imagine Communications. “This validation ensures the interoperability of Imagine Communications’ leading technologies, extending our footprint across the worldwide IPTV market.”
