Discover everything: IBC’s Feature Areas

The IBC Experience is all about immersing yourself in the white heat of the very latest trends and technologies impacting the industry and getting to connect with the people driving change. The Feature Areas are designed for this very purpose.

Intelligently curated and programmed to enrich your understanding of developments at play across the Exhibition and Conference, these unique attractions are also great places to network with people from all corners of the industry.

No-one wants to miss the IBC Future Zone, adjacent to Hall 8, where extraordinary ideas leap from the labs of academic and broadcast research institutes into potential reality. Previous years have showcased 8K and virtual reality so if those technologies look less science fiction now which inventions will impress you in 2016?

The IBC Big Screen Experience is one of the six main streams of the IBC Conference and focuses on how emerging technologies like High Dynamic Range and High Frame Rates are being used to deliver a more immersive cinema experience. Speakers from Disney, Warner Bros and Dolby will present and showcase technologies at the impressive RAI Auditorium which is upgraded for 2016 with a HDR projection system.

The IBC Launch Pad, located in Hall 9, showcases exhibitors who are not only new to IBC but may well be new to you too. It’s well worthwhile seeking them out for the fresh perspectives they can provide on topics as diverse as content delivery, image processing and storage.

A highlight of every IBC are the IBC Innovation Awards which recognise the inspiration, expertise and sheer endeavour that teams of vendors, service suppliers and media organisations make to achieve breakthroughs in content creation, content management and content delivery. This year’s finalists include a remote workflow to produce a German reality show on two secluded islands; the management of 3,000 hours of content a day for a full year for a Chinese video portal; and UEFA’s multi-angle delivery to second screens.

Every IBC visitor is welcome to attend the fabulous Sunday night ceremony.

For a close-up on actual case studies of solutions in the field check out the IBC Technology in Action Theatre. Located in Hall 3, this Feature Area hosts a wide-ranging programme of use-cases and demonstrations covering cloud, IP, production, post production and delivery. The programme changes daily, is free to attend, and is a prime opportunity to quiz those who have already put technology to use.

Hone your knowledge of the consumer behaviours, business models and technologies driving content engagement over connected devices at IBC Content Everywhere Europe, in Hall 14. The heart of IBC Content Everywhere Europe is the Hub which hosts a daily programme of two-hour technical sessions plus panel discussions and no-nonsense product demonstrations.

It’s also a great place for informal meetings and networking. Tools and techniques for live streaming is key focus here with sessions trained on ways to leverage social networks during live events and dynamic ad insertion for live simulcast.

Look out too for the return of IBC Hackfest which encourages innovation in software coding live on the IBC floor. All the Feature Areas are embedded throughout IBC, are open daily and are free to attend at any time to help you make the most of your IBC experience.
