Converter targets UHD transition

The South Korean company’s focus at IBC is a new UHD scaling cross converter, given that terrestrial TV channels in Korea are gearing up for UHD broadcasts and the need for HDR support has increased. The company is also targeting territories
beyond its home market.

THEFINE’s cross converter is designed to resolve errors that the company says occur in the process of converting pre-existing Full HD broadcasts to UHD. Currently, it says, Full HD broadcasting equipment used by most broadcasting stations are 3G interface (SDI), which is not directly compatible with UHD broadcasting equipment.

The cross converter not only supports 12G SDI, but also HDMI 2.0a/b. High dynamic range images and passive HDR metadata can be inserted. Image verification and inspection in production and broadcasting sites can be done conveniently with these functions, the company notes.
