Arabsat to launch Badr-7

Building on a successful IBC2015, Arabsat is set to launch its first sixth generation satellite, Badr-7, at the 2016 event and the company is keen to talk to visitors about the opportunities it presents.

The launch is part of what Arabsat describes as its ambitious expansion plans, and is the sixth satellite launched by the company over the past seven years, in three different orbital positions, to provide TV broadcasting and telecommunications services.

Badr -7 joins Arabsat satellites Badr-4, Badr-5 and Badr-6 on its exclusive TV broadcasting orbital position 26° East.

The successful launch came 30 years after the launch of Arabsat’s first generation satellites in 1985.

Arabsat says that it currently has three new satellites being manufactured as part of the sixth generation project, which will be successively launched over the next three years, representing an investment of $1.5 billion.

“We are very pleased with the successful launch of Arabsat’s first sixth generation satellite,” said Eng. Khalid bin Ahmed Balkheyour, president and CEO of Arabsat. “Badr-7 offers a wide range of coverage on a variety of different frequency beams including Ka-band.”
