4K sports encoder showcased

A 4K HEVC encoder and decoder designed for use during sports event coverage is being shown for the first time at IBC.

The HC11000 Series from NTT Electronics is a 4:2:2 10-bit HEVC (H.265) real-time encoder that the company says “has the capability to transmit high-quality video images in low bitrate, low latency with low power consumption”.

Capable of working in SD, HD and 4K 50p, it is available in two versions: the 1RU Full (HC11000) and the Half Rack (HC10000).

Also at IBC, NTT is showcasing the fruits of its R&D work, including a real-time 8K HEVC encoder that is suitable for online transmission, broadcasting and distribution and an immersive telepresence system called Kirari.

The latter is described as a “next generation live viewing service that delivers the entire event atmosphere to the world”.

The NTT stand also features new technology from NTT DATA Italia and NTT-IT.

NTT Data Italia is showing Hyper, an advanced software application for automating the batch transcoding of videos for OTT VoD services, and Gaia, an SDI enhancement video filter.

Gaia uses psycho-visual techniques to apply a pre-distortion to an SDI stream in order to obtain a better subjective image following AVC or HEVC compressionNTT IT is showing the ViaPlatz Stream Monitor, a device for checking the status of, and spotting problems in, IP video transmissions.
