A round-up of appointments and movements in the broadcast industry.

Britain’s fastest growing broadcaster UKTV has appointed Sinead Greenaway (pictured) as director of operations and technology. Greenaway was previously CEO of The Studios at MediaCityUK (now Dock10) and operations and IT director for Virgin Media Television. “We plan to substantially increase both the amount of content we deliver to our audiences and the number of platforms through which we engage with them and this growth will be enabled by harnessing world class technology,” she commented.

Elsewhere in the industry, Arkena, which specialises in OTT delivery platforms, has appointed Aymeric de Cardes as director of the TDF media services division, which includes Arkena and Mediamobile.

PR firm Bubble & Squeak is expanding its broadcast and media offering with a new pro AV division. The director of the new division is Stuart Hillis who previously oversaw PR operations at AV distribution company Midwich.

Cambridge Imaging Systems has added two to its number this month. Monisha Shah (pictured), has joined as non-executive director, and Fiona Coughlan has been appointed to the role of sales and marketing director. Shah is a media professional with significant board experience of major national and international companies and institutions and has worked with BBC Worldwide for over ten years.

Jean Philip De Tender, general manager television Eén, Canvas and Ketnet for Flemish public service broadcaster VRT has been appointed media director of the European Broadcasting Union. “Jean Philip has been a part of the EBU community for many years,” said EBU director general Ingrid Deltenre. “This new role plays further to his strengths. Public broadcasting is in his DNA and as the channel manager of one of Europe’s most successful public service broadcasters, there is much that he can share.”

Forbidden has announced the restructuring of its commercial and marketing departments. In the new executive team, Jason Cowan has been promoted to director of business development and Aziz Musa (pictured) to director of marketing.

Sami Mäkinen has been promoted by Genelec to the role of business manager, AV install. Mäkinen joined Genelec in 2007 as domestic sales manager (Finland) and later moved to international sales manager, home audio.

Sports business expert Rick Horrow (pictured), has been appointed by Globecast as a key industry advisor on a consultancy basis. Horrow is a noted sports business analyst, hosting a show on Universal Sports Network and analysing sports industry news for Bloomberg and CNBC.

Irdeto has announced that Doug Lowther will be assuming the role of CEO following Graham Kill’s resignation in September 2014. Lowther returns to Irdeto from International Datacasting Corporation (IDC), where he currently serves as CEO. Prior to IDC, Lowther was EVP of Irdeto’s digital TV business and had been with the company for over nine years.

Audio technology company iZotope has made a number of senior appointments to support its operations including: Claire Harding Hollenbeck as VP of education, Jonathan Wyner as education director, and Andrew Jobson as customer care director.

Paul Shonfeld has been announced as sales and business development director EMEA, at Memnon Archiving Services, the partner for digital preservation, enrichment and accessibility of audiovisual and cultural archives.

Weather insights company MetraWeather, has recently appointed Scott Barber as business development manager, media products EMEA, in its UK office based in Reading, Berkshire.

Norigin Media has appointed Ajey Anand as CEO and he company has outlined a new structure effective immediately. As his first measure as CEO, Anand has announced an organisational restructure with emphasis on product development at Norigin. “With the goal to accommodate different customer segments, a new organisation supporting sector agnostic delivery has been formulated. We will expand our product offering and cater to a larger target market of TV and video streaming services,” he said.

Quantel and Snell announced two appointments this month: Tim Thornsteinson as CEO and Neil Maycock (pictured), to the position of VP, marketing. Thorsteinson has held many senior roles in the media industry, including twice as CEO of Grass Valley, president of the broadcast communications division of Harris, and president and CEO of Enablence. He takes over from Ray Cross, who has stepped down after ten years as chairman and CEO.

Riedel Communications has hired Andreas Pater to serve as the company’s head of rental innovations, overseeing product management within the Riedel rental department and working with his team to optimise management and marketing of the company’s rental solution portfolio.

Sony Professional Europe has a new head of marketing for AV and media solutions. Michael Harrit will have overall responsibility for Sony Professional’s marketing strategy for that sector, ensuring it reflects the industry’s priorities and changes and serves the organisation’s overall business goals.

Suitcase TV had two new employees at BVE last month. Fraser Jardine has recently taken over as commercial director, and Ed Calverly started work as Suitcase TV’s product manager a day before the show. “I’ve been aware of Suitcase TV for a long time and I can’t overstate how amazing the technology is,” explained Calverly.

Finally, TVT, independent media services and post production house, has hired Andrea Winn (pictured), who will be responsible for sales and business growth across TVT’s portfolio in the UK and internationally.
