STB market on the rise in 2016

Shipments to reach 273 million for the year

Global set-top box (STB) shipments will rise year-on-year in 2016, according to the latest SNL Kagan research.

The report claims that worldwide set-top box shipments are on track to reach 273 million in 2016, up from 269 million in 2015.

SNL said, however, that set-top box revenues are ‘again trending lower’.

The research claims that, at the end of 2016, global STB revenues to will be $16.4 billion, an annual decrease of six per cent, with high-volume set-tops continuing to experience declining selling prices.

SNL said it expects worldwide STB unit shipments to rise slightly to 275 million in 2017, but decrease in 2018 and 2019.

Despite this, it predicted that demand for STB products will “remain robust for the next several years” with shipments still forecasted to exceed 261 million in 2020.
