Netflix gaining ground on YouTube, iPlayer

SVoD leader Netflix is rapidly making up ground on YouTube and iPlayer in the UK, according to eMarketer.

The BBC and Google have dominated the UK online video market in recent years, but analysis from RBC Capital Markets showed that throughout August 2016, Netflix was used by 42 per cent of UK internet users, up from 30 per cent in August 2015.

This has significantly closed the gap on iPlayer and YouTube, which were accessed by 62 per cent and 54 per cent respectively.

Amazon Prime is still notably far behind in the UK market with 26 per cent, which Sky Go and Now TV respectively earning 21 per cent and 16 per cent.
