Global spend on digital content ‘will reach $250 billion in 2019’

According to Juniper Research

Global consumer spend on digital content will reach $250 billion in 2019, according to a new study from Juniper Research.

The report largely attributes this year-on-year increase of $23 billion to video growth, driven by OTT players such as Netflix, Amazon and Apple.

The research predicts that the video sector will account for 45 per cent of global annual revenue growth in 2019, along with games (36 per cent), lifestyle (8 per cent) and ePublishing (5 per cent).

Sporting rights are also expected to drive growth.  Juniper cites Amazon’s acquisition of a small rights package in the Premier League as a test for larger, potentially exclusive bids in the future in both Europe and the US.
