Germany’s pay-TV and paid VoD revenues will reach €3 billion this year, according to the latest report from the country’s commercial broadcaster association, VPRT.

VPRT stated that the market grew more than ten per cent last year, and is predicted to increase by a further 11 per cent in 2016, taking revenues from around €2.7 billion to in excess of €3 billion.

Germany was a slow starter in the pay-TV market, but now 105 pay channels, including 43 entertainment nets and 16 documentary/factual channels.

“The key driver behind this development is a rich variety of programmes and services, be it documentaries, childrens programmes, music, sport or entertainment,” said Frank Giersberg, member of the board of directors, market and business development, VPRT.

The report further stated that TV subscriber numbers were up 6 per cent to 7.4 million in 2015, with VPRT predicting that figure would rise to 7.8 million in 2016.
