Danish SVoD spend rises 30 per cent

Accounted for a fifth of total video consumer spend in 2018

The Danish video market saw a seven per cent increase in 2018 with the SVoD sector significantly driving growth, according to research by Futuresource Consulting.

SVoD spending in Denmark grew by 30 per cent, accounting for more than a fifth of total video entertainment consumer spend in the country. Netflix was the market leader with 39 per cent of subscriptions.

Pay-TV consumer spend remained three times higher than SVoD spend in 2018, seeing growth of two per cent and the number of subscribers also growing by two per cent.

Futuresource Consulting research analyst Tanzim Rahman said: “Subscriptions grew by 25 per cent in 2018 to 2.1 million, with three services gaining 100,000 or more subscribers.

“The SVoD market stands out as a major driver of growth in the video entertainment market, with SVoD consumer spend nearly doubling between 2016 and 2018 and growing by DKK 852 million.

“Therefore, SVoD accounts for the majority of total growth in the entertainment market over the same period, which saw revenues rise by DKK 1.2 billion,” he added.
