Netflix wants to let viewers choose their own adventure

Special episode of Black Mirror is part of streamer's move into interactive programming

Netflix is planning to let viewers choose the plot of the TV or film they’re watching, as it moves into interactive programming.

According to Bloomberg, the initiative will launch this year – possibly with a special episode of Black Mirror.

The idea is that the viewer can “choose their own adventure” as they’re watching content.

Netflix has already released some episodes of choose-your-own-adventure animated programmes designed for kids. In Puss in Book, viewers have to decide whether the show’s hero should fight a god or a tree. After watching one version, the viewer can go back and choose the other scenario.

Bloomberg says Black Mirror is expected to be the first series to offer alternative storylines, but the streamer is “close to a deal on one or more live-action project”.
