BBC triumphs at RTS Programme Awards

Broadcaster won the Live Event, Sports Programme and Channel of the Year categories

BBC programmes have won in 15 categories at the Royal Television Society (RTS) Programme Awards.

The BBC Studios production The Royal Wedding: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won the award for best Live Event, beating The Real Full Monty Live (ITV) and Glyndebourne Opera Cup (Sky Arts) to the trophy.

Meanwhile BBC Sport’s MOTD 2018 World Cup: Quarter Final – England v Sweden triumphed as Sports Programme of the Year, described by judges as “capturing the intense emotion of the occasion.”

The Channel of the Year award went to CBeebies, while the RTS gave its Judges’ Award to Channel 5 director of programmes Ben Frow for his “passionate and transformative” approach to the channel since taking it over in 2013.
