BBC iPlayer sees drop in viewers during April

Figures drop by 12 per cent compared to March

BBC’s iPlayer registered a drop of almost a million daily requests in April, compared to the same figure in March.

April saw 277 million requests across the month, and 9.2 million daily requests, compared to 315 million programmes, and 10.2 million daily requests during the previous month. However, compared with April 2017 the figures saw a three per cent increase.

As in March, drama was the most popular genre with viewers, with Ordeal by Innocence, Come Home and EastEnders dominating the top 10 most requested episodes as well as the top 10 most requested episodes per series.

Dan McGolpin, controller of programming for the BBC, said: “It’s our unique range of high quality British new programmes that keep people coming back to BBC iPlayer and April was no exception with top-requested drama series Ordeal By Innocence and Come Home, top-requested comedy series Cunk On Britain and top-requested documentary series Stephen: The Murder That Changed A Nation.”
