YouTube denies cancellation of script commissions

Company plans ad-supported service for original content

Google has denied reports that YouTube has cancelled pitches for scripted content, claiming to be planning an ad-supported service.

The statement comes on the heels of Apple’s announcement for a paid SVoD service, with YouTube doubling down on original video content.

Planned to exist alongside YouTube Premium, the service would offer original TV content for free.

YouTube did confirm the cancellation of scripted projects Origin and Overthinking with Kate & June, as reported by Bloomberg.
