MultiDyne has announced it has acquired the assets of robotic camera systems MRMC (Mark Roberts Motion Control).
The deal brings MRMC’s core technologies, intellectual property, manufacturing capabilities and key engineering expertise into the MultiDyne organisation. The company added the combined portfolio will strengthen MultiDyne’s value proposition across broadcast television, sports production, digital cinema, virtual production, live events and emerging content creation markets.
As part of the deal, MultiDyne has launched a new company, MultiDyne Robotics and Motion Control aka MRMC. MultiDyne said it plans to maintain MRMC’s operations in the UK, and has appointed industry veteran Neil Maycock as managing director of the new entity.
“We fully intend to bring the business back as quickly as possible,” Maycock tells TVBEurope. “We want to retain customers, fulfil outstanding customer commitments, rebuild relationships, and just get the company back to where it was.
“We want to retain all the great relationships that MRMC has enjoyed over the years, and we see massive potential for the business going forward. We want those customers to be part of that go-forward story.”
Maycock says that despite its troubles, there remains a strong level of goodwill towards MRMC with the industry, which makes MultiDyne confident of its decision to “rescue” the company.
“MRMC makes robots for cameras; they’re immediately complementary to MultiDyne, so there’s no product overlap, it’s immediately additive for both businesses. You can genuinely use the word synergy, which is often thrown around too much in these situations.”
The two companies are expected to operate separately for the foreseeable future, with integration unlikely to happen in the next six months, adds Maycock.
“If you think about the type of connectivity MultiDyne does, where you can get signals and power over a single cable, that signal and power could go to a robot now over a single cable versus multiple cables. So there are definitely opportunities for integration. Over time, there will be opportunities to collaborate on R&D.”
