Vivendi ‘asks for meeting with Mediaset to seek truce’

Vivendi has reportedly written to Mediaset's board members

French media company Vivendi has reportedly written to the executives of Mediaset to ask for a meeting as the two entities look to end their long-running row.

According to Reuters, Vivendi has written to Mediaset’s board members. However, the letter does not advance any plan for a possible deal between the two groups, according to sources who spoke to the news agency. One of the sources said Vivendi had asked Mediaset to come up with a proposal.

The two companies have been locked in battle for months over the plan to merge Mediaset’s Italian and Spanish business units into MediaForEurope, which would be based in Amsterdam.

Last week, Vivendi wrote to Mediaset to say it was ready to support the Italian broadcaster in its cross-border growth strategy, provided it included a governance structure to protect minority shareholders. At the time, Mediaset’s board has said the offer is not satisfactory.

Both companies have not commented on the report.
