Twitter launches live video API

The API is expected to work in a similar manner to Facebook Live

Twitter has announced the launch of a new live video API designed to make it easier to post live broadcasts.

The Periscope Producer API is expected to work in a similar manner to Facebook Live. Access to the API is currently limited, with users being asked to sign up for a private beta test.

The tool will allow third parties to more closely link their video tools with Twitter’s interface, working with Twitter’s own Periscope Producer feature to ease the complexities of producing such material.

It’s thought the API will also allow ‘big’ video cameras, editing boards, desktop editing software and even satellite vans to directly broadcast their live videos to Twitter.

Telestream, Wirecast, and Livestream Switcher are thought to be working with Twitter for today’s launch.
