BT is expected to announce it has sold its half of the joint venture as early as this week

Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) is set to buy BT’s stake in the pair’s joint venture TNT Sports, according to reports.

The FT suggests the deal could be announced as early as this week, when BT reveals its full-year results.

WBD has an option to buy out its partner by the end of next year, adds the report.

The two companies first announced they were entering into a joint venture in May 2022, having begun talks earlier that spring.

TNT Sports went live in the UK and Ireland in July 2023, with discovery+ becoming the new streaming destination for the broadcaster in the UK.

Earlier this year, WBD announced it was moving all of its sports coverage in the UK to TNT Sports, with the broadcaster now home to the Premier League, UEFA European club competitions, rugby, cycling, tennis, snooker and the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.
