Redundancies at Grass Valley as operations move to Canada

"The years of success, and the legacy of achievements from our facility in Newbury will not be forgotten or taken for granted," company tells TVBEurope

Grass Valley is to make a number of redundancies at its UK headquarters in Newbury as it looks to shift operations to Montreal, Canada.

As part of the company’s recently announced transformation, the decision has been taken to scale back its presence in the UK, with operations moving to Canada, with other positions based at Newbury moving to remote working, the new Centre of Excellence in Poland, or being made redundant.

Over time, as our company has grown through acquisition, we’ve accumulated a real-estate footprint that is unsustainable,” Grass Valley’s CMO and general manager of playout Neil Mayock tells TVBEurope.

“To address this, we’ve established a Centres of Excellence strategy that will enable us to expand our new product development capabilities. In fact, one of the keys to this strategy is the opening of an entirely new Centre of Excellence for us in Krakow, Poland, where many leading global technology companies have also chosen to create development centres.”

Maycock added, “The years of success, and the legacy of achievements from our facility in Newbury will not be forgotten or taken for granted. We cherish and honour the contributions of all the folks who have collaborated to create this incredible legacy.”

Grass Valley established its UK base at Newbury after its then parent company Belden acquired Snell Advanced Media in 2018. Since then, Grass Valley has itself been sold to Black Dragon Capital.
