Queens Award for interactive specialists

Strategy & Technology (S&T) has been awarded a Queens Award for Enterprise, which recognises S&T’s achievement in growing sales of its products internationally over the last four years.

Strategy & Technology (S&T) has been awarded a prestigious Queens Award for Enterprise, which recognises S&T’s achievement in growing sales of its products internationally over the last four years and having a well-defined and effective marketing strategy.

Strategy & Technology was founded initially as a two-man consulting firm in 1996. It now has offices in London; Bristol; Louisville, Colorado, USA and Hong Kong and supplies software that facilitates the creation, playout and display of interactive television content used by digital TV broadcasters, network operators and receiver manufacturers. The company helps to develop and promote the use of standardised technology and has been closely associated with the UK switch-over to digital television. S&T wins the Award for growing exports more than six-fold to nearly £4m over six years; it has increased the proportion of exports to over 90% of total sales over this period and sales are made to markets in Europe, North America, Asia and the Pacific Rim. The company continues to grow and export successfully.

S&T’s international trade success is led by the sales of its TSBroadcaster product that is used in cable networks in the USA to deliver interactive TV applications to subscribers. S&T is a leader in the supply of this type of technology (called an object carousel) in the USA, as well as internationally.

S&T’s other major success has come from its work to promote the international use of the MHEG standard for interactive TV that is behind the ‘Red Button’ services on the UK’s Freeview and Freesat platforms. S&T has provided complete MHEG systems to broadcasters and operators in both New Zealand and Hong Kong and is currently working on a major deployment in Australia. To support these markets the company supplies its RedKeyTM MHEG software for TV receivers and set-top boxes to consumer electronics manufacturers throughout Europe and Asia.

David Cutts, Managing Director, said: “This is public recognition of the creative efforts of the engineers designing and selling our products around the world. The Award cites our focussed marketing strategy and positioning as a key factor in our success. I am incredibly proud of our achievement in becoming a small UK-based global company. Our goals have always been to be a leader in the markets that we serve and to focus on giving our customers true value and return on their investment in the technology that we supply. At its heart S&T wins because of its great engineering, experienced management and excellent sales and support teams; the company couldn’t be more honoured to receive this award.”
