Poll: Current bodies/association should be responsible for drawing up sustainability standards

Our poll found no-one thinks vendors should be responsible for drawing up sustainability standards

A poll by TVBEurope and InterDigital has found that the media technology industry believes current bodies/associations should be responsible for drawing up industry sustainability standards.

The poll was carried out as part of The Challenge of Choosing Sustainability in the Video Entertainment Industry webinar.

The audience was asked who they thought should be responsible for drawing up industry standards, and were given four options: vendors, broadcasters, current industry bodies/associations or a brand new industry body.

Current industry bodies/associations received 40 per cent of the vote, with broadcasters and a brand new industry body garnering 30 per cent each. No-one voted for vendors.

The webinar featured an expert panel discussing a number of different topics, including what remote production will mean for sustainability, how to educate the audience on the impact of their viewing habits, what broadcasters are doing to reduce their carbon footprints, whether new codecs such as AV1 and VVC will make a difference, and if IP will impact sustainability.
