Daniel Pagan, commercial director at SCENESIS Pictures, tells TVBEurope why working in the media industry is exhilarating

Talk us through an average day in your role?

As the commercial director at SCENESIS Pictures, my days are dynamic and multifaceted. Typically, I start by liaising with our production and artists team to align on ongoing projects and client needs. This involves strategising ways to enhance our relationships with key clients and exploring avenues for new collaborations. I often engage in networking activities, attending industry events and meetings with potential partners. Additionally, I oversee the financial aspects of our projects, ensuring they remain within budget and meet our revenue targets. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities, but ultimately, it’s about driving growth and excellence in visual storytelling for our clients.

How did you get started in the media industry?

My journey in the media industry began over 25 years ago, fuelled by a passion for film, TV and drama. I embarked on this path by working at renowned companies such as The Mill, Prime Focus, VTR, and others, where I gained invaluable experience across various facets of film and television production. Over the years, I’ve cultivated strong relationships with industry stakeholders and honed my skills in project management, finance, and client relations. This rich tapestry of experiences has shaped my career and led me to my current role as commercial director at SCENESIS Pictures.

What training did you have before entering the industry?

Before entering the media industry, I pursued a formal education in areas relevant to my career aspirations. This included studying film production, business management, and finance, which provided me with a solid foundation for navigating the complexities of the industry. Additionally, I actively sought out opportunities for hands-on experience, whether through internships, workshops, or freelance projects. This combination of academic learning and practical exposure equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the competitive landscape of visual storytelling.

Why do you enjoy working in the industry?

Working in the media industry is exhilarating because it allows me to be at the forefront of innovation and creativity. Every project presents a unique challenge and an opportunity to push boundaries, whether it’s through groundbreaking visual effects or compelling storytelling. I thrive in the fast-paced environment of film and television production, where collaboration and ingenuity are paramount. Moreover, the ability to make a meaningful impact on audiences through the power of storytelling is incredibly rewarding. Each day brings new adventures and opportunities for growth, making this industry an endlessly fascinating and fulfilling space to work in.
