People on the move – December 2010

This month's movements in the European broadcast industry, from Analog Way to Vector3, collated by Melanie Dayasena-Lowe.

Soundcraft Studer has promoted Alan Wright (pictured), previously UK R&D manager, to the role of Quality and Continuous Improvement manager, reporting directly to Andy Trott, vice president and general manager of Harman’s Mixing and Microphones & Headphones Business Unit.

Leading the newly opened Analog Way Deutschland office, Steffen Herzer has been appointed as area sales manager. “His experience of the German Pro A/V market as well as his professionalism will be major assets to develop our relationship with our customers in Germany and Austria,” said Alexander Schöpff, EMEA sales director at Analog Way.

The EBU has announced the appointment of Graham Warren as Director of Network and News, starting in March 2011. He has worked in the media and broadcast area for over 30 years, most recently for Ofcom in the UK.

At Harris Broadcast Communications, under the direction of Mathias Eckert, vice president of sales and service for Europe and Africa (EA), the new EA operation is broken down into four sub-regional teams reporting into Eckert: Sally Wallington, who heads the United Kingdom, Israel and South Africa; Nicolas Berthier, who heads France, Belgium and North Africa; Valter Bordignon, who heads Italy, Iberia, Greece and Malta; and Stefan Weidner, who heads the Nordic countries and Central Europe. Also reporting into Eckert is Stephan Kappel who has been appointed as the new head of customer support and professional services for Harris Broadcast Communications’ EA operation. He joins Harris from Avid, where he was responsible for developing professional services and customer-focused activities across a number of countries.

The IABM has appointed Roger Crumpton as director of education, employment and training. Former IABM CEO Crumpton has recently completed a 10-month research project to assess the skills issues and training requirements of the global broadcast and media technology sectors.

Tamsin Christofides and Sophie Laxton have joined IBC as operations project managers while Georgina Bentley-Leek joins the team as operations executive.

Fixed satellite services provider Intelsat has announced that Flavien Bachabi has been appointed vice president, Business Operations and Intergovernmental Initiatives to head up the Luxembourg headquarters office. His responsibilities will include overseeing all major business operations, joint venture agreements and regulatory filings.

Graduate Engineer (FH) Meike Fuhrmann has become a member of the service and support department of L-S-B Broadcast Technologies. She is in charge of the customised integration of the VSM control system.

Marquis Consulting has expanded its senior management team by naming Chris Gill as a new senior partner. Before joining Marquis, Gill ran a successful business as an independent media consultant working with clients from around the globe. 

Technology reseller root6 has appointed Malcolm Smith to the newly created position of senior broadcast account manager. Smith joins from Avid where he served for more than 15 years in various sales roles.

Paul Burfield has joined TV One as R&D manager. He is a 25-year industry veteran with an extensive technical background in areas such as project management of R&D teams, FPGA and mechanical board design, software, and EMC/CE requirements with companies that include the BBC, IBM Microelectronics, NEC, and Petards EIMC.

Vector3 has expanded its sales force with the appointment of Glyn Bartlett as sales manager for EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions. Bartlett brings over 20 years’ experience working for technology companies such as Snell & Wilcox, Applied Media Group and Thorn EMI and most recently as head of sales at Oasys.
