NBC’s hayu signs licensing deal with Viacom

One of Viacom’s first SVoD deals focused on reality content

NBC’s SVoD reality TV service has signed its first licensing deal with Viacom International Media Networks.

The deal gives hayu access to Viacom’s shows including The Hills, Jersey Shore, Laguna Beach and Love & Hip Hop: New York. They will be available alongside over 4,000 episodes of reality content already on the service.

The two companies said the deal was a direct response to demand from fans and one of Viacom’s first SVoD deals focused on reality content.

“Our latest SVoD deal with hayu demonstrates VIMN’s ongoing commitment to expanding its global footprint by making sure we’re everywhere our audiences are,” commented Lauren Marriott, vice president of international programme sales. “Familiarity is something consumers love, particularly in a world where there is so much choice and this is reflected in the ongoing demand for and continual relevance of our established and much loved titles.”

Hendrik McDermott, senior vice president, branded on demand, NBCUniversal International, added: hayu’s acquisition of iconic VIMN reality content has added over 400 hours of nostalgic programming to the service – from series that were specifically requested by our users. We are delighted to see this content being embraced alongside the growing inventory of over 4,000 episodes of NBCUniversal’s world-leading reality content currently available to hayu subscribers.”
