Matt Stagg joins BT Sport as director of mobile strategy

Broadcaster also announces plans to launch a pay-per-view channel

BT Sport has announced the appointment of Matt Stagg as its new director of mobile strategy.

Stagg will continue to lead EE’s strategy for delivering 4G and 5G networks for the media and broadcast industries.

In his new role, Stagg will report to BT Sport COO Jamie Hindhaugh and has been tasked with developing the broadcaster’s mobile capabilities. The company recently showcased the world’s first broadcast of a UEFA Champions League game in High Definition HDR direct to mobile.

Speaking of the appointment, Hindhaugh said: “Mobile is hugely important to our future. Matt will ensure we continue to lead the way with mobile innovation and capitalise on this growing audience.”

Stagg added: “I’ve been working closely with BT Sport since well before EE became part of BT – they are Europe’s most ambitious and innovative broadcaster, and they have a very clear focus on the mobile opportunity.”

Meanwhile, BT Sport has announced it plans to launch a pay-per-view channel, BT Sport Box Office, later this year.

No other details have been revealed, other than it will be available on both the BT TV and Sky platforms.
