Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT) is looking to launch the first smart TV service in Latvia, according to the company’s president Juris Binde.

The project, which is being developed in collaboration with Google, will look to provide extensive content choice to each of its users, giving them the ability to create personalised blocks of TV channels and applications.

LMT, which is the oldest mobile operator in Latvia, aims to release the service, LMT Majas Televizija, in the second half of 2016, with testing beginning this month.

“If the test is completed successfully, we will start selling the television in the second half of the year,” said Ingmars Pukis, LMT vice-president for marketing and business development.

“With the help of the high-speed 4G internet, LMT Majas Televizija provides the opportunity to make Latvian-produced content available in many remote regions of Latvia where it is currently unavailable due to technical limitations.”
